Tudor Black Bay Bronze Watch Slate-Grey Dial & Black Leather Strap 43mm

Although the TUDOR Black Bay Bronze isn’t per se a new model, the new slate-grey colour scheme certainly is. Baselworld 2019 saw TUDOR proudly unveil their newest addition to the naval inspired bronze collection. While the satin-brushed finish bronzed casing, sized at 43mm is the focal point of the watch, the new slate-grey shaded dial and bidirectional bezel coupled with gold accents, heightens the naval influenced aesthetics of which this model pays homage to. As with all other Black Bay models, the Black Bay Bronze adopts the catachrestic “Snowflake” hands from the TUDOR 1969 catalogue and the unprotected winding crown typical with the original TUDOR divers’ watches. While the TUDOR Black Bay Bronze is heritage inspired, it is of course a modern-day functioning divers watch. With waterproofing of up to 200 meters, modern-day manufacturing techniques, reliability, robustness and quality, the expertise of over 60 years of producing TUDOR divers’ watches pays dividends for an exemplary neo-vintage inspired, contemporary manufactured timepiece.

For such a meaningful timepiece as the Black Bay Bronze, a suitably significant strap is required. In keeping with the brand’s naval history, TUDOR looked to the French Navy’s imaginative creativity to interpret into a strap worthy of partnering this latest model.

The French Navy requested TUDOR watches to be delivered without bracelets or straps so they could create and fit their own. One such French period divers’ watch was found in the TUDOR archives, complete with a strap made from elastic recovered from French rescue parachutes. This ultra-functional artefact, recognisable by its gold coloured thread, is the reference behind the slate-grey woven jacquard strap available for the Black Bay Bronze.

A second option of an aged black leather strap with straight cut edges and white thread detailing, accentuates the rustic effect of the watch.

TUDOR’s famous Black Bay Bronze is a model aesthetically inspired by TUDOR’s naval heritage, using the high-performance aluminium and copper alloy metal, bronze, as a reference to the brass used in old ships and diving equipment. Following the introduction of the first TUDOR Black Bay Bronze model, Baselworld 2019 saw TUDOR launch an updated, slate grey version of this imposing bronzed model.

Due to the characteristic patina of bronze, over time, exclusive aesthetic changes will develop on every model, this unique, subtle patina colouring is based on the wearer’s lifestyle and habits. With the slate-grey colour combination the overall, rich visual effect of the TUDOR Black Bay Bronze, is that of an object that has accompanied a seasoned sailor on many voyages, it's unique patina coloured by exposure to the elements faced at sea.
