The S500 Supermarine was Bremont’s first marine watch released back in 2009. Taking its name from the iconic British aircraft manufacturer responsible for the incredible ‘Supermarine Spitfire’ and the ‘Supermarine S.6B’ seaplane (That featured on the caseback). Being a brand famous for its pilot’s watches, Co-Founders Nick and Giles English wanted to create a very effective divers watch with a classical and aviation design. Delving into the crowded, professional divers watch market, the two brothers knew that the S500 Supermarine had to compete and hold its own in the terms of engineering, design and price point. Using Bremont’s unique Trp-Tick® three-piece case, the S500 Supermarine could withstand impressive depths of up to 500m (1660ft) firmly cementing Bremont’s place in this exclusive sector. Nine years since its initial break through, 2018 will see the release of the newly updated Bremont S500 BL Supermarine.
The noticeable change in the two blue models is the simplified dial layout. The central minute track has been removed, making the dial less crowded and new Arabic Numeral have been added to the hour markers. A thermometer style tip, filled with Super-LumiNova® has been added to the graceful sweeping seconds hand. The bezel indications, hour indexes and originally shaped Lolly pop hour and sword shaped minute hands are also filled with the extremely legible Super-LumiNova®. A new, flat sapphire uni-directional rotating bezel, has replaced the original domed design, but the specially designed stainless steel Bremont Trp-Tick® case remains, measured at 43mm in diameter and coated in the scratch resistant DLC (Diamond-like Carbon). The crown on the Supermarine models are located outside of the 2 o’clock position, rather than the standard 3 o’clock, like many other watches. An integrated helium escape valve for saturation diving, can be found on the left side of the casing. Finally, the S500 BL Supermarine is situated on the prepossessing blue integrated rubber strap, ideal for comfort outside of a wetsuit or everyday wear.
The screwed-in stainless-steel steel case back, decorated with the Supermarine S.6B seaplane, houses the BE-92AE automatic chronometer, vibrating at 28,800 beats per hour. Supplying the Bremont S500 BL Supermarine with an excellent 38-hour power reserve.
