While Breitling were well established in the aviation world by the early 1950’s, the manufacturer was yet to delve into the world of diver’s watches. Fast forward to 1957, Breitling proudly unveiled their first divers watch, the Superocean, a practical divers’ watch capable of withstanding depths up to 200 meters. These days, the Superocean is equipped with a helium escape valve, enabling the watch to withstand impressive pressures of up to 2,000 meters. For the 50th anniversary of the Superocean, Breitling released a commemorative collection named the Superocean Heritage, showcasing some of the original features of the first 1950’s model.
The newly updated Breitling Superocean Heritage B01 Chronograph 44 was unveiled at Baselworld 2018, one of 50 new watches released by Breitling this year. Although updated, the timeless watch collection continues to pay homage to its inspired past, keeping the traditional large hands and the vintage 1950’s Breitling logo. A blue ratcheted Unidirectional bezel and a steel casing sized at 44mm surround the contrasting dial colours of blue with silver sub dials. The large hands, hour marker dots and zero reference dot on the bezel, are all coated in luminous, ensuring legibility in the darkest of conditions. A subtle date aperture also features between the 4 & 5 o’clock position. Finally, the Superocean Heritage B01 Chronograph 44 is finished on the traditional steel mesh bracelet, completing the robust, practicality of this established voyager.
Powered by the formidable in-house Breitling 01 (COSC) self-winding mechanical movement, vibrating at 28,800 per hour. This supplies the Superocean Heritage B01 Chronograph 44 with a remarkable power reserve of up to 70 hours.
